Commander Mike Johnson began his law enforcement career as a community service officer (CSO) with the Cottage Grove Police Department in 2003. He was hired as a full-time police officer in 2005 with the Brooklyn Center Police Department. During his time with Brooklyn Center, he served as a patrol officer, street crimes unit (SCU) officer, auto theft investigator, detective, patrol sergeant, field training officer, use of force instructor, and member of the Emergency Operations Unit, which is now referred to as SWAT.
In 2021, Commander Johnson chose to leave Brooklyn Center and further his career serving as a major with the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office. He oversaw the patrol division, civil division, recreation division, regional dive and rescue team, was the Goodhue/Wabasha County emergency response team commander. He returned to Brooklyn Center Police Department to serve as a Commander in January 2025.
Commander Johnson earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from St. Cloud State University in 2005. In 2022, he successfully completed the 22-week staff and command program through the School of Police Staff and Command at Northwestern University, Class No. 527.
