Found Pets

All animals must be brought in to PUPS facility by an officer, they can't take in any pets directly from the public. If you have found a stray pet, please contact 9-1-1 to have it picked up. An owner will be best able to find their pet if it is being held at the impound facility for the city it was lost in. They may not even think to check with other organizations (like Animal Humane Society) and may not be reunited with their pet.

All stray pets are held for five business days. Any unclaimed pet will then be made available for transfer to an approved rescue organization, PUPS is unable to do any adoptions.

Are you interested in fostering or adopting one of the animals currently housed at PUPS? Please fill out the online foster or adopt form that is forwarded to the approved rescues that are willing to help you foster or adopt a pet that is currently housed at PUPS. You will need to go through their approval process for fostering/adopting a pet. PUPS cannot guarantee availability of adopting an unclaimed pet at their facility - they are available to the approved rescues on a first come basis.

Missing Pets

PUPS shares photos of incoming strays on their  PUPS Facebook page as quickly as they can, but they may not always get shared the day they arrive at the facility.

Is your pet missing? Please fill the online form. After filling out the form, please be sure to email a picture to the email address found at the bottom of the submission confirmation page after the form. You can also call 763-494-5999 to report your missing pet if you prefer.

Reclaim Your Pet

PUPS charges a $50 fee per calendar day per animal.

A current Rabies vaccination certificate is also required. If you do not have one for your pet, a $25 cash deposit will be required. This gives you two weeks to get your pet vaccinated and bring the certificate in to PUPS for a refund of the deposit.

To reclaim your pet that was found in Brooklyn Center, bring the following items to PUPS:

  • Leash or collar if picking up a dog.
  • A small transport kennel if picking up a cat.
  • Proof of ownership (vet or adoption paperwork, bill of sale, pictures, etc.)
  • Provide a current Rabies Vaccination Certificate or pay $25 cash deposit.
  • Valid driver's license or state issued identification card.
  • Pay the impound fee(s) via cash or credit card (a convenience fee  will be added to credit card payments).
