Police Commander Minimum Requirements
All candidates applying for the police commander position with the City of Brooklyn Center must meet the following minimum requirements for employment in addition to the police officer minimum requirements listed below:
- Bachelor's degree in police administration, criminal justice studies, law enforcement, public safety, or related field.
Ten (10) years of sworn law enforcement experience, four (4) of which must be as a police supervisor.
- Valid Minnesota peace officer’s license.
- Valid driver's license.
Desired Qualifications
- Successful track record of building strong relationships with a wide variety of people and traditionally underserved communities.
- Successful track record managing people.
- In addition to English, the ability to speak, read and/or write non-English languages (including sign language).
Police Officer Minimum Requirements
All candidates applying for the police officer position with the City of Brooklyn Center must meet the following minimum requirements for employment:
- Must be a citizen of the United States
- Must possess a high school diploma, GED or equivalent
- Must possess or be able to possess a Minnesota POST License at the time of employment
- Must possess a valid Minnesota Drivers License, a valid license from another state or the eligibility to obtain a valid Minnesota License
- Must not be required to register as a predatory offender under Minnesota Statutes, section 243.166 or 243.167
- Must not have been convicted of the following:
- A felony in this state or in any other state or federal jurisdiction.
- Any offense in any other state or federal jurisdiction which would have been a felony if committed in Minnesota;
- 609.224 (Assault in the fifth degree),
- 609.2242 (Domestic Assault),
- 609.231 (Mistreatment of residents or patients),
- 609.2325 (Criminal Abuse),
- 609.233 (Criminal neglect),
- 609.2335 (Financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult),
- 609.234 (Failure to report),
- 609.324 (Other prohibited acts),
- 609.465 (Presenting false claims to public officer or body),
- 609.466 (Medical assistance fraud),
- 609.52 (Theft),
- 609.72 subdivision 3 (Disorderly conduct- Care giver against a vulnerable adult),
- or convicted under any state or federal narcotics or controlled substance law irrespective of any proceeding under Minnesota Statutes, section 152.18, or any similar law of another state or federal law.
